“Inner Beauty”

For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated with trees. Their shapes, colors, types, everything about them. More specifically, Cotton Wood trees. In the winter they stand out, silhouetted against the overcast sky, a kinked, imperfect, and magnificent form with a strength that will outlive my own.

Artist: Curtis Burgess

Shop: Tribal Rites, Fort Collins, CO

Session 1 Time: 4 Hours

UPDATE: April 29, 2012

The piece is finally complete! Another 3 hours under the gun added to the first 5 makes it a total of 8 hours. Every second was worth the pinching, scraping, and stinging. Curtis did an amazing job of giving me a beautiful piece of artwork on my back that I couldn’t have imagined being a part of me forever. Thank you to everyone that sat with me, held my hand, and funded my largest ink endeavor.

UPDATE: April 19, 2012

For an artistic reference I took MANY “before” pictures (to my mother they were “you better record what it looks like before you ruin it” photos (; Love you mom!)

This was my favorite and gives a great frame of reference for size: my blank canvas.
